CALL FOR PAPERS AND PARTICIPATION

ACM Multimedia 2002 will be held in Juan-les-Pins on the French Riviera, renown for its beaches facing the azure Mediterranean, its proximity to Provence and the Alps, its sunny and mild winter climate, its sunsets, and its fine wine and dining. The Riviera is also the home of the Cannes Film Festival, an annual multimedia event. The conference location is only 8 miles away from Nice International Airport, the second largest airport in France, yet it is a quiet place along the seaside close to such spectacular spots as the Cap d'Antibes.

The conference will be held near Sophia Antipolis , a major European center for computer technology, communications and multimedia, which includes major research organizations such as INRIA, EURECOM and the W3C, as well as major industrial employers such as Amadeus, IBM, Motorola, Siemens, France Telecom, and Texas Instruments.

The conference complements this setting by presenting and exploring technological advancements in multimedia. Technical issues, theory and practice, as well as artistic and consumer innovations will bring together researchers, developers, educators, and practitioners of multimedia.

Present your work at ACM Multimedia 2002 and define the future of multimedia.

Technical Program

The technical program will consist of plenary sessions and talks with topics of interest in three main tracks:

Awards will be given to the best paper and the best student paper.

Panels

Short Papers/Posters

Short papers will be presented in poster format and are an opportunity for researchers to present new work and ideas in an interactive setting.

Technical Demonstrations

Demonstrations will include leading edge work in every area of multimedia technology and its application. An award will be given to the best technical demo.

Day-Long Workshops

Workshops on topics of great current interest to members of the multimedia research community will precede the technical program.

Doctoral Symposium

This symposium is a venue for doctoral students in computer science or related areas to present their research and receive feedback from members of the multimedia research field.

Video Program

Submissions will be Video Figures (3 min videos which illustrate a regular paper submission), or Video Demonstration (8 min videos which show a tool, system or application). Selected videos will be shown during the conference, distributed on a CD-ROM and referenced in the proceedings.
